KONTENTS INDEX measures what Korea is watching and listening to right now — aggregated not from one platform but from search, news, viewership, music charts and social into a single index, computed daily. We have recorded Korean pop-culture data since 2018.
Why we built it
Korean content became the world's mainstream, yet no one measured its influence honestly. When one streaming chart's real-time ranking becomes absolute power, it stops pointing to what is most loved and starts pointing to what is most organized — firepower becomes ranking, ranking becomes visibility, visibility summons more firepower. In that closed loop we lost the simplest answer: what does the public actually love now?
How we differ
KI accepts no single source as authority. Voluntary interest (search), public agenda (news), real viewing (OTT & ratings), industry performance (multiple music charts) and live conversation (social) are normalized and weighted into one index. If one source is gamed, the whole does not break. We measure artists and titles, not tracks — and present freshness, not past fame.
Buzz, kept separate
We don't deny fandom firepower — it is the engine of K-content. We simply refuse to weigh it on the same scale as public reach. The objective index (KI), firewalled from votes and money, shows real public reach; Topicality shows fandom's raw firepower. Never mixing the two is our most radical decision.
Eight years on record
KI was not built overnight. We have recorded Korean music since 2018, and drama, film and every category since 2023 — daily. That accumulated data is the neutral reference cited by awards, agencies and media.
Trust is the product
The objective index is never affected by sales, ads or votes. We aren't building a bigger number — we're building a more honest one: a neutral standard that reflects the whole public, not a single fandom or platform. Trust is the product.
